Project Overview

Featured on Grand Designs New Zealand, this remarkable Martinborough home showcases how architectural metalwork can become an integral part of both the landscape and the architecture.

Working alongside Sally & Tim Roach, Design Junction designed and manufactured two completely custom laser cut privacy screen sets.

Inspired by the surrounding vineyards, the realistic grape vine pattern creates a beautiful balance between privacy and openness. The design filters light, frames views and produces ever-changing shadows throughout the day while seamlessly connecting the home with its natural surroundings.

Every panel and supporting frame was designed, engineered and manufactured in Christchurch, New Zealand, resulting in a truly unique architectural feature that is both functional and artistic.

The Brief

Tim and Sally wanted architectural features that would:

Draw inspiration from the surrounding Martinborough vineyards.
Provide privacy without creating enclosed spaces.
Complement the home's contemporary architecture
Allow natural light and airflow through the outdoor living areas
Create a timeless feature that becomes part of the landscape
Deliver a premium, low-maintenance solution built for New Zealand conditions

The Solution

Design Junction collaborated closely with the project to create two purpose-designed laser cut screen installations, including support frames, featuring an intricate grape vine motif inspired by the local environment.

Rather than acting as solid barriers, the screens create subtle separation while maintaining openness and visual connection to the surrounding vineyard landscape. The detailed laser cut pattern allows light to pass through, creating beautiful shadows and adding depth and movement throughout the day.

The result is a architectural statement where privacy, art and landscape design work together seamlessly.

Two set of privacy screes were custom designed for this project, capturing the character and beauty of the surrounding vineyards. 2 kitset frames was designed for effortless installation.

Manufactured from high-quality aluminium with a Dulux Textured Matt Black powder coated finish. The coating provides exceptional corrosion resistance and minimal maintenance for New Zealand conditions.
